These tips can help you always get a cheap hotel room most anywhere.

If you are familiar with the place you are visiting or if it is just a short trip, then you are usually fine booking your hotels and transportation yourself.

But, if the trip is long, complex, or is going to an area you are not familiar with, consider using a travel agent.

Understand the timing of your visit in relation to the peak times for the hotels you are considering.

For example, you can find surprisingly cheap hotels in cities during weekends when business travelers are not staying there.

The opposite is true for hotels in resort areas. You can usually find a great hotel deal if you plan on being there during the week.

Travel off-season for a great hotel deal. For example: Europe in the winter; the Caribbean in September and October; Hawaii in May or September. You will be amazed at the savings in transportation as well as the abundance of cheap hotels.

Join the rewards clubs that hotels offer. They offer perks to repeat customers. You can enjoy upgrades, free night's stay, free continental breakfast, free Internet, or access to the concierge lounge.

Look into all-inclusive resorts. At these, one price includes your accommodations, meals, snacks and entertainment.

We have found that these make for a more enjoyable vacation as you leave your wallet in the safe and forget about it. It makes for a more relaxing time if you are not worrying about the prices or spending too much. It is a vacation from your wallet.

Another option is to rent a house, condominium or efficiency, so you can cook or barbecue. Your meals expenses will be much lower than if you had to eat every meal out in a restaurant.

You will also have more time to enjoy your destination this way. Otherwise, you will spend several hours of your vacation each day in restaurants just to eat three daily meals.

Do not make long distance calls from your hotel using their long-distance service. They often add as much as $3 to $4 per call.
